Last Lecture of the RelNetIQ Series was about Digital Autonomy
At the last, sixth event of the RelNetIQ series, Dr. Csaba Krasznay, Head of the Cybersecurity Research Institute at the Faculty of Public Governance and International Studies of the University of Public Service, gave a lecture on digital autonomy in the light of modern geopolitics and technologies.
In a series of lectures co-organized by RelNet and the Department of Telecommunications and Media Informatics of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, university professors gave presentations on the most topical issues of network management and security. According to Dr. Csaba Krasznay's presentation, being autonomous means being able to achieve key strategic goals free from the influence and dependencies of external parties. The level of digital autonomy of the European Union will therefore depend on the extent to which an environment can be created in which the EU reaches the necessary and sufficient degree of independence of its own operations from global competitors (US and China), in particular from technologies such as AI, chip manufacturing capability, global cloud providers, and so on. However, there are many aspects of technological dependency that need to be taken into account in order to achieve digital sovereignty, as further economic, legal, political or even military interference can be an obstacle to the creation of an independent and competitive European digital market, as the two major powers have no interest in supporting the EU's ambitions – the lecturer said. Following Dr. Csaba Krasznay's presentation, our colleague Zoltán Mezei, systems engineer at RelNet, discussed the issue of digital autonomy from the perspective of RelNet's vendor portfolio, emphasizing the challenges of digitalization and data security at the corporate and individual level. RelNet's offering includes solutions from European vendors, most notably Stormshield, WALLIX, Acronis and SSH.COM, to help overcome these challenges, as well as ManageEngine from India, whose products comply with EU legislation and directives. With this presentation, the RelNetIQ series came to an end. The presentations will soon be available as training courses in the RelNet eLearning Program. In view of the success and quality of the series, we would like to continue the cooperation with the Budapest University of Technology in the near future.
